A study of the flow field associated with a two-dimensional,supersonic jet impinging normally on a flat plate is reported. Two wedge nozzles manufactured at the design Mach numers of 1.75 and 2.75, respectively, were used to provide the jet. Experimental results of the pitot survey of the free jet are first presented to indicate the quality of the free jet. Results of surface pressure measurements and the schlieren photographs of the impingement flow with the shock patterns are then presented and discussed. An approximate theory based on the method of integral relations is briefly described, and is used to compare with the experiments. The case of an underexpanded jet impinging on the plate is also included. (DePo)
