This paper presents measurements of heat transfer to cold surfaces at conditions simulating advanced gas turbine conditions and their use to examine the range of applicability of viable predictive methods. The measurements were made under isothermal wall conditions in short duration isentropic light piston tunnels using surface temperature transient techniques. The effect of Mach number, Reynolds number, wall-to- recovery temperature ratio, surface curvature and pressure gradient on the measurements and selective prediction techniques was demonstrated.
