Microcomputer systems will influence future technical changes in a submarine. As a demonstration of the computational power of the microcomputer, an optimal controller for the pitch and depth of a submarine was developed using the INTEL 8080 microcomputer. A model simulating a submarine and the control algorithm were first written in a simulation language DSL/360. The control algorithm was then coded in the microcomputer language PLM and implemented on a microcomputer. Also included is an investigation of the feasibility to execute the PLM program in a given time frame, an analysis of the computational errors and the inherent errors in measurements form peripheral devices.
