The measurement of temperature and velocity profiles is important to give insight into the combustion mechanism of hybrid rockets and to be able to assess the relevance of theoretical models. A method based on the sodium-line reversal line technique, recording the radiation of hot gas at a given wavelength, has been developed, taking into account the transient character of the phenomenon due to turbulent fluctuations. The radiation curves obtained also can be utilized, by a slight modification of the apparatus, in order to evaluate the flow velocity. The results obtained from the temperature measurements give good agreement with predictions obtained from a theoretical model.
