This study contains a brief literature survey and limited experimental data regarding the water-surface contours for supercritical flow in a steep converging chute. Items relevant to design of the chute sidewalls are described, and the development of a computer model for chute design is suggested. The author also suggests design is suggested. The author also suggests that a horizontal transverse water surface cannot be obtained unless parallel sidewalls are used and that for a converging chute, the designer will probably have to evaluate and accept some level of nonuniformity in the flow.
