Potential large-scale uses of ozone-treated seawater include biofouling control in power plant cooling water, shellfish hatchery disinfection, and marine aquaria water polishing. Such facilities might discharge millions of gallons of ozonized seawater per day. Data are given which suggest that seawater ozonization produces long-lived oxidants which may be deleterious to marine organisms. Such oxidant compounds may exhibit halflives in excess of 24 hours in filtered seawater. Spectrophotometric scans of ozonized seawater and ozonized distilled water are shown. Potassium iodide titrations of ozonized seawater solutions, various ozonized bromide concentrations in seawater, and various ozonized sodium chloride concentrations are presented.
