Starting point of the study a submarine plant for the production of fresh sea water by reverse osmosis, are several papers outlining this concept. The design of the plant discussed here is conceived utilizing the ample experiences gathered in offshore engineering and in the laying of submarine cables and pipelines, as well as the latest developments of related technical branches. In a system analysis matrices of dependence for the individual functional spheres and cost groups of the submarine plant were formed, and the dependence of the plant components and the operation data upon the main parameters investigated. The resuluts were formulated mathematically and compounded in a computer programme allowing to vary the influence of the parameters within wide limits. The cutput comprises an explicit representation of the cost functions, of the costs for all functional spheres with subordinate groups, and the water production costs.
