Capacity management is described for the current 9020 en-route air traffic control (ATC) computer systems, the soon-to-be-operational host computer system (HCS), and the future Advanced Automation System (AAS) of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The goal of capacity management is to ensure that performance requirements for services supported by the ATC computer systems are always satisfied. The discussion examines performance and workload requirements, measurement of workload and performance, performance modeling, and the development of the capacity management program.
