The steps involved in the derivation of a mathematical model of a variable-speed constant-frequency (VSCF) DC-link generating system for use onboard an aircraft are outlined. The equations are arranged in a form which is suitable for numerical solution on a digital computer and are developed from considerations of various subnetworks of the overall network. One principal advantage of the technique described is that it leads to a systematic assembly and solution of the system equations, and thus to a considerably reduced computing time. The results presented are for a proposed system, and indicate the detail of both the steady-state and the transient response which can be provided by the system. This allows a system design to be arrived at which will comply with the requirements of a given performance specification.
