The insertion of new technology alone is not sufficient for developing future combat and tactical vehicles. The paper describes the hardware, software and goals of Vetronics (vehicle electronics), a state-of-the-art vehicle architecture that efficiently integrates electrical/electronic systems into vehicles in the same way that avionics fits into advanced aircraft. The Vetronics architecture is being developed, using the Ada computer language, under the direction of the US Army Tank-Automotive Command.
