One of the world's best-known passenger ships is to be converted to diesel-electric propulsion from steam turbines and the power is to be supplied by nine-on-board generating sets. The conversion, being carried out at Bremerhaven involves MAN-B&W Diesel of Augsburg supplying the nine diesel engines and GEC Electrical Projects (UK) supplying the electrical propulsion systems. The waste heat recovery system, supplied by Sunrod, helps to give what has been described as the world's largest marine diesel electric propulsion plant a high overall efficiency.
