The use of multicomponent wind-tunnel balances in combination with instrumentation and computer systems (ICS) provides comprehensive automation of the measuring processes and of the collection and treatment of the information thus obtained. In order to connect the balances with the ICS the conventional intermediate measuring transducers utilize a number of turns of the lead screws on the balance elements as a component in a digital position code or in an electrical resistance. The authors show that it is much better to employ precision strain-gauge dynamometers as intermediate measuring transducers to connect the balance with the ICS. In this case it becomes possible to improve substantially the operating speed of the balances while at the same time increasing the measuring accuracy.
