The speed and engine output of automobiles are continually being improved. In this connection dynamometers are required to raise speed, capacity, and torque. On the other hand there are demands for higher accuracy, higher responsiveness, and conservation of resources. Meidensha manufacturer EDDIC dynamometers (eddy current type electric dynamometers), DC dynamometers, and FREC dynamometers (AC variable frequency type electric dynamometers). The author discusses the trends in design and the main features of these dynamometers.
