During prolonged cosmic flights, solar batteries (SB) degrade under the action of cosmic radiation. The degree of degradation of solar elements (SE) in a given structure is determined completely by the flux of cosmic particles, their energy, and exposure time, and can reach a significant value. This leads to a reduction in SB power output and, consequently, to a decrease in the time it is actively functioning at its rated value. Radiation impairment of SE is usually evaluated on the basis of data about the integral equivalent flow of electrons characteristic of the given conditions in which the spacecraft functions. Two means are considered for providing reserve power under conditions of SB radiation degradation and partial restoration, differing in the nature of use of reserve in flight.
