The computer techniques used in the latest generation of monopulse secondary surveillance radars (SSR), currently being adopted by authorities throughout the world for air-traffic-control, must be reliable and give clear and unambiguous information. The availability of computers capable of processing SSR plot data, together with advances in graphic display techniques, have allowed the presentation of SSR information on the radar display as a position symbol with an associated alphanumeric label containing the transponder identity code and aircraft flight level.
