For pt.III see ibid., no.601, p.37 (1985). Following the increased use of large integrated circuits in car radios, some firms are proposing microprocessors programmed to carry out more specialised functions, such as the control of a synthesizer. These are then called function microcontrollers and the author gives an example of the use of one of these. The discussion is based on the National Semiconductor COP 420 L microcontroller and a description is given of the capabilities of the program ROM, the data RAM and register. A block diagram of the controller is given and there are detailed descriptions of the major parts of the assembly and a few schematics. The use of a COP 420 L with a synthesizer is explained and a block diagram showing interconnections is given.
