Describes an improved method of V-groove optical fiber mass splicing aimed at overcoming such previous reliability defects as initial splice loss increase due to the irregularity of fiber ends caused by mass cuts, and splice loss variation due to temperature change. Through implementation of 5-fiber splices involving a new component for fiber end preparation, and by using low thermal expansion rate material for the V-groove substrate and adhesive, a low splice loss of 0.1 dB on average and a low loss variation of less than 0.05 dB in the - 30=+60 C temperature range have been attained.
