Some recent Army policy initiatives have been made that will impact the way the Army buys C3I equipment. Current trends are toward designing equipment that will require fewer people, and giving more serious consideration to exploiting commercial and nondevelopmental items (NDI) as an alternative to developing fully militarized C3I. These two themes are illustrated in this article with examples of recent Army procurement actions.
