Rediffusion Simulation and US computer manufacturer Gould Inc. have announced the joint development of a revolutionary new functionally distributed computing system for civil and military flight simulator applications. Although the concept has been evolved primarily for the flight simulation role, it is also ideally suited to simulating not only civil and military aircraft but a whole host of other activities from power generation plant to industrial process control. Code-named Seagull, the system is based on a Rediffusion design concept and will effectively define the technology for the next generation of simulation computers. In essence, Seagull is based on a number of identical Gould Concept 32 computers, known as nodes, which are both interconnected and interactive. Operating within the system, each node is dedicated to processing data associated with specific simulation tasks.
