Electrically-initiated explosive devices are found in areas and products ranging from guided missiles and bombs, to the film and mining industries and firework displays. Electrical testing of these ignitors has to be performed using equipment which is absolutely safe and cannot under any circumstances accidentally fire the igniter. This article describes a method that provides a highly accurate measurement system with 41/2 digit BCD TTL compatible output, which can be incorporated into a fully automatic test system for such igniters while still retaining absolute safety.
