Describes GEC Traction's combined testing installation, which can reveal failure modes and weaknesses that cannot be predicted at the design stage. Microcomputer control enables phenomena such as wheelslip and overloading to be introduced while specific operating parameters and route data are applied. The ability to check regenerative/ rheostatic braking performance against varying line voltage is particularly useful.
