Describes the safety aspects a power network designer should consider when designing metro installations. In the design of the power supply the peak power demands of the metro, the consistency of the demand for traction and non-traction energy, and the characteristics of the energy sources, should be established. Also an analysis is need to evaluate power consumption and availability requirements of operational (signalling, communications) and station equipment (ventilation, escalators, lighting and so on). The provision of emergency power supplies to enable the safe evacuation of passengers from underground is also discussed.
