The authors discuss (a) discrimination of operating tactical military targets from backgrounds in video and thermal imagery for automatic cueing and fire control; (b) automatic navigation by real time image data; (c) automatic classification of military targets from image data for identification friend or foe, decoy detection, or rejection, and counter camouflage techniques; (d) semi-automatic or interactive aids in the field of photointerpretation and data base management for reconnaissance, cartography, and terrain mobility.
