While the benefits derivable from building equipment operating in the millimeter-wave region have been recognized for years, it has been only recently that such systems have become practical. Millimeter-wave frequencies offer the designer of compact weapons systems short-enough wavelengths to provide good definition of potential targets, as well as effective penetration of atmospheric obscurants.
