Calculated data are given for superconducting homopolar machines considered for shipboard electric propulsion systems. The construction of a superconducting homopolar generator of 15 MW capacity, 6000 rpm is described together with that of a superconducting homopolar motor of 30 MW capacity, 115/160 rpm. The practical possibility of fabricating superconducting homopolar machines of up to 30 MW capacity for shipboard electric propulsion systems is indicated.
