The majority of tubes produced for electronic warfare (EW) systems are used in self-protect transmitters. In addition to describing the flexible wide band TWTs being developed for this purpose, special purpose tubes for other applications, including decoys and stand-off jamming are discussed. The impact of system architecture and interface requirements on tube reliability is also considered. In addition to incorporating multi-stage depressed collectors and low voltage grid-controlled electron guns, they also include several peripheral components to facilitate the system interface.
