The architecture features of a tactical terminal (TACTERM) and influence of these features on the development, performance, production costs and future applications of the TACTERM equipment are discussed. The TACTERM architecture provides half-duplex clear or secure voice over HF radio networks by using the voice processor to digitize voice at 2400 bps, the COMSEC module to encrypt the voice and the modem processor to code the most important bits and modulate 39-tones with the resulting bit stream.
