The auxiliary power supply equipment on DC electric trains is now tending from conventional rotary motor-alternators to static inverters. Since the equipment is mounted under the floor of the train cars, the apparatuses are required to be small and light, silent, and as free from maintenance as possible. In order to satisfy these requirements, high-power GTOs are used, thus completing lightweight, silent and high-efficiency static inverters. Deals with the 50 kVA GTO inverter construction, ratings, performances and test results.
