Discusses the use of the Matilda System, built by MEL, a threat-warning and reaction system for safeguarding naval vessels from impending missile attack, and introduces a new concept in automatic threat evasion. Matilda is lightweight, and is a low-cost automatic shipborne electronic support measures (ESM) radar sensor. It provides an alarm-status indication to the ship's command, and automatic triggering of defensive measures when faced with an immediate threat.
