JTIDS provides anti-jam, secure, nodeless, high-volume data and voice communications between tactical C3I elements and combat forces. Connectivity via the basic JTIDS technique is obtained by giving each user a discrete period of time (called a time slot) in which to transmit its information - all other users listen at that time. This principle is known as Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA). JTIDS/TDMA provides 128 time slots per second per net, and up to 128 nets are possible. Each time slot contains 225 bits of data with each five bits being spread over a three MHZ pulse. Each pulse is transmitted on a different frequency in the 960-1215 MHz range. Anti-jamming capability is made up of spread spectrum and frequency agility.
