Following the first flight of the A310 Airbus (of international manufacture) one of its original features is presented, namely, the engine vibration measurement system, operative in flight, which is based on systems used in large turbine testing equipment. The purpose of the measurements is examined and the system comprising piezo-electric detectors, temperature and noise compensation is described and the location and mounting of the detectors is indicated. Some account is given of the analysis and presentation of the signals.
