The circuit described was designed to protect a thyristor-based model railway speed control. When the current drawn exceeds the value set the supply is cut off completely and remains off until reset by a switch. The circuit is fast acting-it will close foen for a short-circuit at very low speed settings-thus providing some protection against running an engine up to a set of 'closed' points.
