For pt.III see ibid., vol.64, no.10, p.1019 (1981). This part deals with railway electronics and communication. Discusses automatic train control (ATC), automatic train stop (ATS), centralized traffic control (CTC), automatic train operation (ATO), train radio and other automated systems. Japanese National Railways (NJR) uses ATC, ATS and CTC. A new train radio system using leaky coaxial cables has been brought into use. JNR has also conducted experiments with an experimental satellite. Preliminary tests for CTC and remote power substation control using optical fibre cable are in and ATO is already in practical operation with underground systems of Kobe and Sapporo.
