The final configuration is determined by perturbing the preliminary design until the requirements are met. A computer can speed up this iteration process through the use of an airplane synthesis computer program that automates the yearly phases of the design process. One such program in use at Beech is the General Aviation Synthesis Program (GASP) developed at NASA's Ames Research Center. This complex program consists of several different technical discipline modules and a control module that directs the changes in configuration variables and the flow of calculations through the technical modules to determine a configuration that meets the design requirements.
