Links between car manufacturing companies and electronics companies are tabulated. Customer response based on market surveys, expectations in regard to electronic accessories costs, customer views of key instrument functions and manufacturers' response to these results are discussed. The 1979-1980 level of production of car electronic components and 2-3 yr and 5-10 yr projections for Japan, USA and Europe are tabulated. Market projections in terms of cost of electronic components per unit car for 1980, 1985 and 1990 are calculated. Currently available devices such as exhaust emission control units, LCD displays, trip computers, engine control modules and speed and braking radar are shown.
