Metal encapsulated switchgear is described in which sulphur hexafluoride gas is used as the insulation medium in the overhead rail system with T-junction convections to a working floor level control section with vacuum-switch operating units. below the floor level are the cable ducts with horizontal cables bending round through 90 to a vertical section beneath each vacuum operated switch. The continuous rating of the installation is at 2.5 kA at 40 C with overload conditions at 110% at 30 C and underload 80% at 50 C. Three dimensional sectioned photographs and a vertical plane section drawing are included.
