A solution to the problem of stabilising the images formed in observation devices on ships involves stabilising the line of sight through the device. An investigation of the use of a microprocessor to control a mirror to implement this solution is described. Some rules governing the application of microprocessors to real time tasks were formulated during the investigation and these are presented.
