To reduce the incidence of the breakage of the connecting tails of the rectifiers used with automobile alternators, tests have been made with a spiralled instead of a straight wire to minimise the effects of vibration. The wire has been formed into a two-turn spiral, one turn giving an adequate surface for soldering to the diode button, and the other giving the desired flexibility. The tests have shown that the reduction in breakages justifies the change.
