SOTAS is a division level system designed to detect and locate enemy movement well beyond the forward edge of the battle area. It consists of a heliborne scanning radar, a data link and ground stations to display target imagery. Ground stations are located at division main and tactical command posts, division artillery and each brigade headquarters. These stations display near real-time information to the battle commanders and staffs.
