Switchgear panels for mounting on board ship contain an upper level instrument compartment, an intermediate compartment with an adjustable plate for mounting contacts and a lower compartment and a driving mechanism for the earthing contact rod. The active switching members are metal encapsulated. Equipment is prefabricated in a land based shop for rapid mounting on board ship when required. To ensure satisfactory operation under marine conditions, special tests are required to insurance standards. These include function tests at angular inclinations up to 22.5 from the vertical in various directions. Ratings are typically 34 kA at a potential of 6 kV.
