As a result of a recent invention, mercury lighting installations can now be converted easily and inexpensively to high pressure sodium installations, with resultant savings in energy and running costs. The device that makes this possible is a solid state convertor unit which allows the existing choke and luminaire to be retained but a high pressure sodium (SON) lamp to be used in place of an existing mercury (MBF/U) lamp.
