It is shown mathematically that the Oscar 7 satellite used for amateur radio transmissions travels constantly through sunlit space when flying over Europe irrespective of day-time or night-time on the Earth's surface. This is considered to account for the increase in temperature indicated by telemetry data from the satellite and a possible cause of malfunctions in the satellite electronic systems due to overheating.
