Marine data requirement arises out of expansion in the fields of oil exploration, port facilities, shipping and fishing. Accurate environmental data is a must for safety and economy in marine engineering. A wide variety of instruments are used for physical, chemical and geological oceanography. Seismic profiling provides an important means of acquiring sub-bottom details. The trends are towards instrumentation systems rather than individual instruments for acquisition processing of a variety of data.
