Examples of electrical installation layouts are given for a number of merchant ship types, specifically large tankers, bulk carriers, passenger ships, container vessels and ice-breakers. Medium voltage (6 kV, 3.3 kV) and low voltage (440 V, 380 V) circuits are described as used in the container vessel 'Columbus New Zealand'. Some details are also given of automated units and fin stabilisers, and the use of process computers. Electric control circuits are described which relate to diesel electric propulsion units for an icebreaker of Finnish design for use in the Argentine.
