Discusses the automated processing of radar signals for ensuring the safety of shipping in busy sea lanes and harbours. The radar chain of the German North Sea coast with rivers Jade, Weser, Elbe is described. AEG are developing a new radar system with frequency and polarity diversity scanning (wavelength 3 cm), and with linear array serial with electronically controlled polarisation.
