Following the construction of a long highway tunnel, development of vehicle detectors as the terminals of a traffic control system was required. In this report, is described the radar vehicle detector, which was installed in Ena highway tunnel, about 8.5 km long, and in Amikake tunnel, the outline of the microwave transmitter, signal processing method and its performance. Twenty-four radar terminals have been installed there. A single terminal can measure traffic quantity, running speed, and time occupancy at the same time, and sends necessary information to the system control center. Traffic count error can be expected to less than 1%, as the result of the measurement using four kinds of cars, speed measurement error was less than 5%, and time measurement error was less than 10% in standard deviation.
