Three major tactical data systems that will transfer the technology of the computer to the battlefield are in various stages of realization. The Tactical Fire Direction System (TACFIRE) will increase effectiveness of field artillery firepower by coordinating target intelligence, fire-planning, target analysis and fallout prediction. The Missile Minder will enhance command and control of air defense weapons. The Tactical Operating System will be interoperable with TACFIRE and Missile Minder to support the field maneuver commander by giving him the data needed to make command decisions under the stress of combat.
