The Tacan system family has as the central equipment the advanced airborne MITAC equipment which performs a number of functions including en route navigation in cooperation with Tacan ground stations, approach and landing in cooperation with the SETAC landing aid, and station keeping with the Fotac system. A further step is the planned future replacement of Tacan ground stations in Germany by the more efficient Ortac-M stations.
