The new system described comprises base stations at each railway station, connected by a coaxial cable paralleling the line, on which repeaters are installed at invervals of about 1.5 km to compensate for transmission loss. The leaky wave is used for communication. The studies on the train antenna to be used with the leaky coaxial cable, the radiation characteristics of the prototype antennas manufactured on the basis of those studies and the results of measurements by JNR of the coupling loss between the prototypes and the leaky coaxial cable are presented.
