The new commercial satellite communications system, called MARISAT is currently in the implementation phase and should become an operational reality in 1975. This system will provide, simultaneously, tactical communications channels for use by US Naval Forces and maritime mobile communications services to commercial shipping interests in the Atlantic and Pacific areas.
